Stand Up for a Brighter Tomorrow is an annual Behavioral Health Conference on the emotional well-being of children and adolescents. Stand Up benefits professionals, parents and others interested in increasing their knowledge about sexual assault and/or interpersonal violence and emotional and/or behavioral disorders found in children.  

  • There is no registration fee to attend the conference and there is no charge for continuing education credits.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Door prizes will be available 
  • Please notify Heather Greene or Renee Conn if you find you cannot attend after registration so that others can be registered after maximum capacity is reached.

 

CEU credits are approved for this conference by the Kentucky Board of Social Work and are pending through the Kentucky Board of Examiners in Psychology, Licensed Professional Board of Counselors, and NAADAC. Attendees must attend an entire workshop and complete a written evaluation to receive CEUs.

 

This conference is hosted by Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s Healing Program for Survivors of Sexual Assault & Interpersonal Violence. Funded in whole or part with public funds.

Marsy’s Law in Practice

Presenter: Adam Gearheart, JD Assistant Commonwealth Attorney, Johnson County, KY

This presentation examines the elements of Marsy’s Law and how it has been utilized in the court system as of 2022. Finally, this presentation will discuss how Marsy’s Law has changed the practice of law and the role of victim advocacy.

Session 2 Workshop Details

Human Trafficking 101

Presenter: Marissa Castellanos Human Trafficking Director Catholic Charities of Louisville

The audience will gain increased knowledge of human trafficking definitions and terminology, as well as a better understanding of the vulnerabilities, risk factors and protective factors for individuals. This session will provide human service professionals with information and resources to provide a supportive environment to trafficked survivors.

Adverse Childhood Experiences: ACEs and Social Impacts

Presenter: Nicole Y. Ward Ma, LMFT, BHP

In this session, participants will explore societal systems and the ACEs. We will explore how often people are impacted negatively by society and family functioning. We will also explore healing from trauma.

Level: Advanced

COVID-19 Guidelines:  Conference organizers will follow CDC guidelines applicable at the time of the event. Currently, we do not anticipate a need to confirm vaccination at the door. However, we recommend masks to be worn when moving to other areas within conference venue. We also recommend attendees sit with people they have been working with throughout the pandemic when possible.
