The Crisis Line is a toll-free, TTY accessible phone line, operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The system has a mental health clinician available at all times to assist in crisis intervention. The clinician assesses each call to determine the appropriate intervention.

Interventions provided by the Crisis Line system are:

  • Supportive Counseling via Telephone:
  • The clinician may provide support and assist the caller in problem solving to resolve their current crisis situation.
  • Referrals:
  • Referrals to outpatient mental health services or other community resources will be provided when appropriate.
  • Medical Advocacy:
  • When a call is received requesting medical advocacy services, Crisis Line staff will obtain information regarding which in-region hospital is requesting the service. Crisis Line staff then contact The Healing Program staff person or volunteer that is on-call to respond to the indicated hospitalís request.
  • D/ID Crisis Response:
  • When a call is received requesting D/ID services, Crisis Line staff will obtain required information to determine if the D/ID on-call staff person is to be contacted or if the situation can be resolved over the phone. If the on-call person is contacted, Crisis Line staff will complete the appropriate paperwork and the on-call person will call the crisis line with a disposition once the situation is resolved.
Emergency On-call System

The on-call system is an after hours crisis response system, operated by the Crisis Line staff. It consists of a schedule of professionals available to respond to requests for consultation at local hospitals with whom MCCC has a contractual agreement, the After Hours Clinic or regional county jails participating in the Jail Triage System.

Involuntary Commitment Evaluation System

Involuntary commitment evaluations are performed by Qualified Mental Health Professionals as defined in KRS 202A. Involuntary evaluations are provided as requested by Court Ordered Petition or Warrantless Citation by law enforcement. The request for an evaluation is made by calling the Crisis Line. Crisis Line staff maintain an on-call schedule and dispatch evaluators per request of law enforcement. Evaluators shall arrive at the evaluation site within one hour.
