NEW CHILDREN'S HOME |
|||||
Mountain Comprehensive Care Center – Making Dreams Come True Wheelwright resident Alfred Rhea and his daughter Alfreeda recently donated a nine-room house to MCCC to be used as a residential facility for special-needs children. Alfred’s wife, Alberta “Bertee” Rhea received the house as a gift many years ago. It was Bertee’s wish that someday the home could be used to help children and the family. This is a gift that will keep on giving as we renovate the house to create a six-bedroom residential care center for children.
MCCC recently received licensure to begin a therapeutic foster care program to serve children in our area. Foster children in need of specialized therapeutic services are often referred outside of their home communities to receive needed treatment. We currently offer numerous outpatient mental and behavioral health services for developmental disabilities, substance abuse, crisis services, victims of sexual assault or domestic violence and psychiatric and psychological services. These services along with many others will be available to assist foster parents who care for children in our new foster care program. We have a 24-hour crisis line that foster parents can call for assistance in handling special needs children. Foster parents will receive intensive training on how to handle special needs issues. Our goal is to provide a stable home environment for troubled youth and teach them to live a normal life as they and their families work toward reunification. Mountain Comprehensive Care Center is currently recruiting qualified staff to continue the program’s development. We are also seeking foster parents who are willing to accept the “total child, including their problems and fears.” We are looking for ‘special parents’ to care for these ‘special needs children’. To learn more about becoming a foster parent for MCCC, contact Robin Gray at (606) 886-4319 or via email at rgray@mtcomp.org. We are facing a great challenge as we embark upon such a large project, but we are very excited about the opportunity to provide this Foster Care Program. We are currently launching a fundraising campaign to help raise funds to support the renovation of the Children’s Home that will be named in honor of Alberta Rhea. We are accepting monetary donations from any who wish to contribute to this worthwhile project. To participate in our fundraising campaign, please visit the Fundraisers site.
