Overdose deaths resulting from prescription drugs now outnumber deaths resulting from illicit drugs. Prescription drug misuse among adolescents is of particular concern. Rates of misuse among adolescents remain high. And the nonmedical use of prescription drugs has been associated with more serious drug problems in adulthood. This workshop will discuss current findings on the relationship between physical and mental health status and adolescent prescription drug misuse and highlight the need for integrated mental health and substance use prevention and treatment.
